We don&#8217;t cover the daily news, but we devote all our resources to investigating the sensitive and important stories that those on power want to hide from the people. Over the past years, this is how we have uncovered the details of the Orb\u00e1n government&#8217;s Russian connections, the Pegasus surveillance and the worsening situation of hospital infections, among others. We actively participate in the work of a growing international investigative journalism community and we publish all of our stories &#8211; which often have international implications &#8211; also in English.<\/p>\n<p>Direkt36 is operated by a non-profit company founded in 2014 by three journalists, Andr\u00e1s Peth\u0151, Gerg\u0151 S\u00e1ling and Bal\u00e1zs Weyer.<\/p>\n<p>We are independent of all political and economic interest groups, and our professional decisions are free from any outside influence. Our most important source of income is our audience: thousands of people have joined our circle of supporters over the course of our operations. He started out as a private sector employee at multinational corporations before he ventured into journalism. He became a reporter and radio show host at Klubr\u00e1di\u00f3, then he produced a podcast and wrote articles at Azonnali.hu. Most recently he worked at Forbes Hungary. In 2019, he won a grant at WDR, a public broadcaster based in Germany. He took part in an International Visitor Leadership Program for journalists twice, organized by the United States Department of State. He has been nominated for the Quality Journalism Award multiple times. She started working at the former independent news outlet Origo, where she spent six years. She later worked for the politics section of Index for ten years, followed by Telex with the departing journalist from Index, and most recently as a freelancer on her own projects. She was awarded the M\u00e1rta Zsigmond Media Prize and the Poverty with Dignity Special Prize. She writes mainly on crime, justice and social issues. She has published two books of her own, the first on the stories of imprisoned innocent people, the second on romantic frauds. She is also the co-creator of two popular podcast series, Role-Playing Murder and Missing Persons.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Kamilla Marton &#8211; reporter<\/h3>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8099\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Marton-Kamilla-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">\n<p>Kamilla graduated from the Budapest Metropolitan University in Communication and Media Science. She started her career at Direkt36 as a junior journalist. She mainly focuses on healthcare investigations, Sino-Hungarian relations and corruption. In 2023 she won the Transparency-Soma Award and was shortlisted for the European Press Prize together with Zsuzsanna Wirth for their series of articles exposing the hidden situation of hospital-acquired infections in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>She also works on documentaries. She was an editor and reporter on the documentary called The Dynasty, which won the Audience Award at the Press Play Prague Festival, earned the team the Economic Journalist of the Year award, received a special award at the 45th Hungarian Film Week and has reached more than 4 million views. As an editor, she worked on the documentary film called The Trap, which reached more than a million views in a week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<h3>Szabolcs Panyi &#8211; reporter<\/h3>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7859\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Panyi-Szabolcs-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Panyi Szabolcs - Direkt36\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">Szabolcs graduated from E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd University where he studied Hungarian language and literature. Between 2013 and 2018, he was an editor and political reporter at Index.hu. At Arizona State University, he studied investigative journalism on a Fulbright Fellowship in 2017-2018. In the fall of 2018, he joined Direkt36, where he mainly works on stories related to national security and foreign policy. Meanwhile, he helped launch VSquare.org, a Warsaw-based cross-border investigative journalism initiative for the Visegr\u00e1d region, where he is currently leading the Central Eastern European investigations. He received the Quality Journalism Award and the Transparency-Soma Award five times each, and he was also shortlisted for the European Press Prize in 2018 and 2021.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Andr\u00e1s Peth\u0151 &#8211; director, co-founder, editor<\/h3>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7864\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Petho-Andras-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Peth\u0151 Andr\u00e1s - Direkt36\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">Andr\u00e1s is co-founder, editor and executive director of Direkt36. Previously, he was a senior editor for leading Hungarian news site Origo before it had been transformed into the government\u2019s propaganda outlet. He also worked for the BBC World Service in London and was a reporter at the investigative unit of The Washington Post. He has contributed to several international reporting projects, including The Panama Papers and the Pegasus Project. He plays a leading role in the production of Direkt36\u2019s documentaries, including The Dynasty, the award-winning film on the business empire of Viktor Orb\u00e1n\u2019s family. He won the Soma Prize, the prestigious annual award dedicated to investigative journalism in Hungary, three times. He was a World Press Institute fellow in 2008, a Humphrey fellow at the University of Maryland in 2012\/13, and a Nieman fellow at Harvard University in 2019\/20. Andr\u00e1s has taught journalism courses at Hungarian universities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Andr\u00e1s Szab\u00f3 &#8211; reporter, editor<\/h3>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Szabo-Andras-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Szab\u00f3 Andr\u00e1s - Direkt36\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">Andr\u00e1s worked eight years as a journalist at Origo, a then prestigious online news site, but also spent several years at Index and vs.hu news outlets. At Direkt36 he covers Russian-Hungarian relations, activities of business circles close to Fidesz, and political decision making processes of the Orb\u00e1n government. She worked as a journalist and editor of the education-themed column at \u00c1tl\u00e1tsz\u00f3 for over three years. In 2019, she participated in Transparency International Hungary&#8217;s investigative journalism mentorship programme. Since September 2024, she is a full-time journalist at Direkt36. During her studies she started working for 444.hu and later spent a semester at Anadolu University in Turkey, where she studied journalism in the Erasmus+ programme. In 2023, she won the main prize of the international journalism programme Achilles Data as part of a team. In 2024, she completed the Pelikan Project&#8217;s journalism training programme. She was a journalist intern at Direkt36 from October 2024 and works in full-time since January 2025.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<h3>Zsuzsanna Wirth &#8211; reporter, editor<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7863\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Wirth-Zsuzsanna-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Wirth Zsuzsanna - Direkt36\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">Zsuzsanna started her journalistic carreer at Origo, where she spent ten years at the news desk, covering and investigating various political and social issues as well as corruption and organized crime. She worked for the Hungarian editions of Forbes and Marie Claire. She has been workign at Direkt36 as a journalist since 2016, and as an editor since 2022. In 2022, she studied OSINT techniques as an OCCRP Research Fellow. She was awarded the Prize for Quality Journalism three times. In 2023, she received the L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Szente-Prize, and together with Kamilla Marton she also\u00a0won the Transparency-Soma award\u00a0 for her series of articles exposing the hidden situation of hospital-acquired infections. She teaches journalism at ELTE&#8217;s media department.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>P\u00e9ter N\u00e1dori &#8211; COO<\/h3>\n<div style=\"position: relative; overflow: hidden;\">\n<div class=\"info-avatar\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7866\" src=\"https:\/\/www.direkt36.hu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Nadori-Peter-2023-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"N\u00e1dori P\u00e9ter - Direkt36\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"info-text-av\">The first editor-in-chief of Origo, P\u00e9ter worked with Direkt36 founders Andr\u00e1s Peth\u0151 and Gerg\u0151 S\u00e1ling at the news portal. His other positions and activities included a long stint as deputy CEO of Lapcom (a print\/online publishing conglomerate), academic publications, and teaching at several universities. In 2020-21 he assisted the team leaving Index to launch the crowdfunded news portal, Telex. He was one of the founders (and, later, chairperson) of the Association of Hungarian Content Providers, and is currently a member of the board at M\u00e9diaf\u00f3rum, the association of independent publishers. She has gained experience in both operational and professional roles at civil society organizations (H\u00e1tt\u00e9r Society, Rosa Parks Foundation) and educational institutions (MOME). She has worked on projects related to human rights, school discrimination, and disadvantage compensation.
